Description of the specialty

EI "Almaty Management University" provides specialists training on educational programs of the specialty 5В050500 – «Regional Studies». Regional studies is a profession of a new formation, which trains analysts who can negotiate, coordinate international programs and promote various projects, accompany delegations abroad, and advise on various types of activities in the field of international and domestic relations. The specifics of “Regional studies” consists in a comprehensive study of the respective region, country or group of countries. It can be the countries of North America, Europe and Asia.

1. West in the world politics
The traditional direction in regional studies. Western students concentrate on studying two European languages, the political process and political thought in Western countries in a comparative perspective, business and foreign policy, ethnography and culture of the EU countries.

2. Asia in the world politics
The demand for experts in the countries of Southeast Asia and the Middle East is growing every year. Future specialists in the East study two foreign languages (English and the most common specialization in the country), business and foreign policy of China and the “Asian tigers”, the history and culture of these countries.

Features  of the specialty

1. Professional knowledge in the field of socio-political and economic processes taking place in the region, and understanding of their relationship.
2. Knowledge of the main trends and parameters of demographic, migration,
interfaith and interethnic processes in the countries of the region in their relationship.
3. Learning two foreign languages: English from the 1st semester, Chinese, Korean, Spanish (optional) - from the 3rd semester.
4. The possibility of employment in state and political structures, in diplomatic departments and international organizations.
5. The possibility of academic mobility in the countries of far and near abroad. (Russia, USA, Great Britain, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Poland, Lithuania, Turkey, Germany, etc.).
6. Acquisition of social responsibility skills, especially in demand when working and studying abroad (on the undergraduate program "Service learning" - "Training in public service").
7. Passing training, production and undergraduate practice at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, akimats of Almaty and regions, embassies and foreign missions, commercial domestic and foreign organizations, non-profit organizations.
8. An opportunity to improve professional skills in the centers and laboratories of the School of State and Public Policy and Law (the analytical center "Synergy", the Center for Mediation and Conflictology.

9. The percentage of employment of graduates in this specialty is more than 80% (data for 2018-2019).

- consultant in regional politics and economics
- expert on world and regional politics, foreign policy of countries of the region of specialization;
- employee of analytical and scientific and expert organizations;
- international and political observer;
- corresponding position in akimats of all levels;
- translator (translator-referent) in the relevant foreign languages when working in state bodies and organizations, local authorities;
